Masaryk University (MU)

The Department of International Relations and European Studies features both rich research agenda and a wide range of study programs. The main areas of research interest are European governance, international relations, international political economy, climate and energy policy, and international security. The Department offers 11 study programs, including a joint degree with Utrecht University (“European Governance”) or the only full-time energy politics program in Central and Eastern Europe (“Energy Policy Studies”).

The Department is part of Masaryk University (MU), which is one of the most important teaching and research institutions and the second largest university in the Czech Republic established in 1919. MU comprises ten faculties and 2 institutes with over 200 departments, institutes and clinics teaching about 30,000 students in 463 programmes, ranked #551-560 in the QS World University Ranking (1/2022). With more than 120 H2020 participations in total MU is one of the best performing universities in CR and has experience with coordinating framework program projects (MSCA Actions – ITN, RISE; Health or Spreading excellence and widening participation). MU has been awarded 8 ERC grants, which makes it one of the most successful universities in CR.
