Call for Papers for the Workshop on External dimensions of the European Green Deal.

This workshop is organized within the framework of the Jean Monnet Network on the European Green Deal: Governing the EU’s Transition towards Climate Neutrality and Sustainability (GreenDeal-NET).  The workshop will take place in a hybrid format on 4 and 5 September 2023 and will be held at Dublin City University.

The workshop will focus on the impact of the European Green Deal outside its borders including through the EU’s international partnerships. Potential topics could include, but are not limited to: 

  • What are the (potential) effects of the different policies of the  European Green Deal on national and transnational environmental policy and governance outside the EU?
  • What sources of learning exist to shape the external ambitions of the European Green Deal to shape policies in other jurisdictions? Sources could include grassroots experiences, existing national and international law and policy, or others. 
  • Whether and how the European Green Deal supports a fair and equitable transition outside its borders.
  • What could be done to improve the effects of the European Green Deal on environmental policy in other jurisdictions and international fora? 

We welcome papers addressing these and other related themes, from any of these or related disciplines and including interdisciplinary approaches: Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, European Studies, Public Policy, Law and Political Economy

Deadline: Tuesday, June 20th 2023. Authors of the selected abstracts will be contacted by Friday, June 29th, 2023

Please submit a long abstract (max 600 words) to goran.dominioni@dcu.ie, louisa.parks@unitn.it and markus.pauli@dcu.ie with "Call for Papers" in the subject line – latest by June 20th 2023, 6 pm UTC. 

Please note that the workshop will lead to a special issue, so the authors will be asked to deliver a first short draft / long abstract (3,000 – 4,000 words including footnotes) before the Workshop, i.e. by August 20th, 2023, 6 pm UTC.
