Simon Schunz is a Professor in the EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies Department at the College of Europe, Bruges. He is also an Associate Research Fellow at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS), Bruges. He previously worked at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, at the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies and the Leuven Institute for International and European Studies, University of Leuven (KU Leuven). Since 2011, he has been a Visiting Professor at KU Leuven, from which he holds a Ph.D. in the Social Sciences.
 
His primary research interests are related to the European Union's external action and environmental sustainability. His work on EU internal as well as external climate and environmental policies and the EU’s relations with major powers, especially the United States and China, has appeared in a variety of outlets such as Carbon and Climate Law Review, Environmental Politics, Environmental Practice, European Foreign Affairs Review, Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of European Public Policy, International Politics, and Political Research Exchange.
