GreenDeal-NET: One Year of Shaping Climate and Sustainability Governance

Date

As we mark the first anniversary of the GreenDeal-NET network, we reflect on and celebrate our achievements, while setting our sights on the future.

Over the past year, GreenDeal-NET has been addressing the complex challenges in governance, policy, and law related to sustainability and climate action in diverse ways. Want to know what we have achieved so far and see what lies ahead?

1. Network growth

Our journey began with a vision to establish a community of experts committed to sustainability and climate governance. In one year, we have made a substantial stride in building this community. Our network now encompasses 12 partner institutions, 23 associated institutions, 69 individual experts from diverse fields, and many more advisors, students and other stakeholders that have been involved in our activities up to now. All are at the heart of our dialogue and collective progress.

2. Completed Collaborative Initiatives

GreenDeal-NET isn't just about growing expertise; it's about driving change collectively. Over the past year, we have actively engaged in the following collaborative projects and initiatives:

Events:

  • Our first international conference, held in Lisbon.
  • Academic panels at a variety of conferences (EUIA, ECPR, ICONs, etc).
  • Workshop on effective communication of results for senior researchers.
  • Policy-link workshops on EU climate governance framework and Contemporary climate activism and EU policy.
  • Several workshops held for our upcoming Special Issues.

Research initiatives:

  • Bi-annual Research Highlights: Edition #1 and Edition #2 for policy makers.
  • Publications related to GreenDeal-NET from the consortium, associate members and experts.
  • Short-Term Visiting Researcher Fellowships.

Education outcomes:

  • “How Green Is Your Deal?” podcast series.
  • Lectures, such as our Environmental Law Lecture series.
  • International PhD School  already offered a variety of activities aimed at fostering academic growth and interdisciplinary exchange for PhD students from our network. Several experts got involved to share their knowledge and provide valuable tools, such as writing policy briefs and developing effective interdisciplinary communication.

These endeavours have allowed us to bridge the gap between knowledge and action.

3. A Glimpse into the Future

As we look ahead, we aim to:

Extend the network further by reaching out to and welcoming experts from underrepresented fields and regions. Diversity of perspectives is key to addressing global environmental challenges effectively. Do you know someone or are you an expert? Get in touch with us!

Educate and exchange knowledge by continuing to provide valuable educational resources, such as workshops, webinars, and lecture series, empowering experts and the wider community. We will also actively engage with policymakers to share knowledge and better understand each diverse perspectives and complex issues.
