Dr. Luísa Schmidt is a sociologist and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa). In Portugal, she pioneered Environmental Sociology research and outreach. She co-founded and leads OBSERVA – Observatory of Environment, Territory and Society; developed the first large survey about environmental values and practices (2000); the first large longitudinal environmental media analysis (2004); and the international public consultation on ‘Climate and Energy’ COP21 Paris (2015). She co-founded the interdisciplinary PhD on “Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies” being part of its scientific committee. She currently runs and/or integrates several projects on this field of work. Authored 20 books and over 120 scientific articles. She is a member of the National Council of the Environment and Sustainable Development. Regular columnist for the largest Portuguese newspaper – Expresso - on environmental and citizenship issues.
