Dr. Lidia Lenuta Balan, from Bucharest, Romania, was from 2005 to 2015 the Head of Legal Office at the Geological Institute of Romania, and later from January 2017 to November 2019, she was project manager for the European project with the acronym DARLINGe. From July 2018 – December 2021  was project manager for the European project with the acronym SIMONA. 

She participated as a project member and in the management team in over 20 national and international scientific research projects. 

She is also the author of over 40 articles of scientific research on environmental protection, and has written 3 books, as the only author in the field of environmental legislation: 

  • Environmental protection in the context of preventing and combating pollution; 
  • Protection of the atmosphere, water and soil at international, European and national level; 
  • Legal responsibility for violating the norms regarding the protection of the atmosphere, water and soil. 

She was the co-author of a book on geothermal energy, entitled: Cascades and Calories: Geothermal Energy in the Pannoniam Basin for the 21st Century and Beyond and coauthor for the book: The European Green Deal: opportunities and challenges for the sustainable development of Romania.
