Daniel Mertens is a Professor of International Political Economy at Osnabrück University. Before that, he held positions at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies as well as visiting positions at Northwestern University, the University of Toronto and SciencesPo Paris. His work combines comparative and international political economy to understand the role of the financial system in decarbonization, the evolution of European (sustainable) investment policies including the European Investment Bank, and capitalist diversity in a new geo-economic order. Among his publications are two co-edited volumes, the Routledge International Handbook of Financialization (Routledge, 2020) and The Reinvention of Development Banking in the European Union (OUP 2021).
