Roundtable on Climate Policies and Politics in Latin America
We have three informative presentations that will provide valuable insights into key aspects of climate change policies and initiatives in the region.
The first presentation by Prof. Dr. Ryan will offer a general overview of the politics of climate change in Latin America, focusing on how it has evolved over the last decade. He will examine the approaches taken by the main economies in the region, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile, with an emphasis on domestic politics and policies. This presentation will provide a comprehensive understanding of the progress, challenges, and trends in addressing climate change within these countries.
The second presentation by Dr. Bersalli will explore the effectiveness of carbon taxes in imperfect electricity markets, with a specific focus on South America. It will cover how carbon taxes have been implemented in these markets and evaluate their impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable energy sysmtes.
Lastly, we have a presentation dedicated to EU-Latin American climate cooperation by Mr. Bruno Julien-Malvy from DG-CLIMA. This session will highlight initiatives and collaborative efforts between the European Union and Latin American countries in tackling climate change. The EU representative will explore the areas of cooperation, policy frameworks, and shared goals, and discuss opportunities for further collaboration to address the pressing challenges of climate change.
Throughout the event, we encourage active participation and discussion to foster knowledge exchange and generate valuable insights.
